The first person he calls is Gwen, just to let her know what’s going on, so that someone does. She doesn’t pick up, so he leaves a message. He thanks her, he wishes her luck, and he tells her he hopes she and Parker are really happy. He tells her what he’s going to do.
Then, he dials another number. This time, the person on the other end of the line does pick up.

He knew that May clipped coupons, that she hesitated before putting name brands in the cart, that sometimes the milk was watered down just a little bit more than it had been the week before.
