“What are the charges?”
Kakashi smiled, twirling the band around his forefinger like a kunai. “Perjury and willful concealment.”
Iruka huffed and shook his head, lips thinning in a way that made Kakashi think he was holding back a grin. “You know, if I’d realized you had such a thing for long hair, I would have started wearing mine down years ago.”
Kakashi’s thumb caught the hair band, halting its revolution.
“Years?”

“What are you looking for tonight?” Iruka purred, and Kakashi barely resisted the need to answer with a weak “You”.
He presses thin lips together instead, sending his body a message to fucking calm down already. “I don't know.” He answers instead.
“Oh, but I think you do.” Iruka chuckles, Kakashi's reactions were nothing short of delectable. “The collar on your neck says you do. Or should I tell lovely Ayami she made a mistake?”
Kakashi blushed this time.
It was something about Iruka's voice, or perhaps how he held himself.
Maybe it was the fact that Kakashi had a raging crush on the teacher for years now.

The last time he’d been on a mission this risky, Kakashi thinks wryly as they run—with, it must be said, what feels like the absolute tail end of his sanity—he’d been a teenager in a white mask. Of course, there’s a difference between “risky” in the sense of being deeply embedded in enemy territory without backup and pursued by S-rank missing nin and “risky” in the sense of giving himself far too many chances to end up in awkward interpersonal situations with the sole object of his affections, but hey, who’s counting?
