Summary
For several moons, Leif and Kabbu have been taking a well-deserved break from exploring to tend to other business and take care of themselves. Little chapter notes/minireviews
CH1: very good start, a bit dense and dialogue heavy but it's not filler by any means and it's already subverted my expectations a ton in terms of where the story is gonna go.
CH2: super nice improvement! love the way the conflict is explored here and the imagery's just way better. not too big on tez right now (they seem evil) but i'll see what up with them... -

Summary
Pheromone assault is considered a serious crime in Bugaria and with good reason: pheromones can cause even the nicest of bugs to lose all sense of self and personality, and become utterly subservient to the whims of the one controlling them, even if it means attacking their friends and loved ones with the intent to grievously harm or even kill. And then there is the chance of causing one afflicted with pheromones to become uncontrollably... aroused.
When Kabbu is forced to fight Vi and Leif over a broken vase and his pre-Awakening mating drive is unintentionally triggered, the beetle finds himself struggling to cope. Burdened by guilt, past trauma, a crushing secret, and a love he feels he cannot share, Kabbu can only see himself spiralling downwards. If only he knew that his hidden affections were being reciprocated with just as much secrecy, by someone who has no idea how to deal with such feelings. If only both could get past their denial and their guilt. And yet Team Snakemouth have faced many challenges together before and their bonds have remained resolute. They will not allow this to be any different.

SHORT CHAPTER REVIEWS (WHILE READING)
i fw ch1 i had some stuff here before but i removed it and forgot what i wrote LOL
liked the 2nd chapter a lot! sets up some really nice groundwork stuff with kabbu and it's also just a very nice read in general
chapter 3 the first one where it gets pretty explicit with the imagery but it's handled really well (imo) which is super nice. also the extra detail game been going FOOLISH!
ch4 was fire. starts off really angsty but it gets super cute by the ending bit, also has an immensely #fiyah line at the very start that shit made me take note
ch5 has some really cool ideas w/ the scientists and an amazing mix of fluff/drama that was awesome... better than the other chapters so far but ch4 still kino
ch6 worldbuilding is fire... and i fw the fact that kabbu's trauma is introduced earlier then comes into effect when it actually matters it's awesome asf
ch7 fightscene is so fiyah.
ch8 also just really nice + got the goat the WIZARD.... forgot 2 write this last night
ch9 might be the greatest like reveal & recontextualization in bug fables media ever man omg i was popping off
ch10 is much more lowkey but i think it's still a pretty fun read]
ch11: 2nd greatest chapter, only 2nd place because of chapter 9 being that kino cinema. it's so damn cute i fw it heavy...
ch12: Fuuuck why do i have to be caught up now this SUCKS ASS!!! Awesome chapter that ties up some loose ends but thunderfire saying there's more... i can only speculate on what could happen next

(review written - 1 september 2025)Super good fic about trans zasp! I think the main reason I like it so much is because of just how human the struggle is written here. Even if you aren't trans/gone through those sort of feelings before the author does a really good job of making you empathize with Zasp and the shit he be going through: there's that endless fight between what you think you have to be and who you really are under it all that's gotten across super well. Probably one of the few fics that's made me at least that lil bit emotional for it, and I think that's a #feat. Also really like the ending, it's really sweet and despite it not being all the way good for him yet zasp still knows it's good now and I will always fw that kinda shit. A bit of a long one-shot (i think it took me like an hour? but I was on my phone in my car with no bionic reader) so you might wanna set aside an hour or spend a few days taking your time with it. 100% worthwhile tho this fic is Kino!!

this was the first longfic i really decided to hunker down and finish reading and i'm very happy i did so because holy moly i really enjoyed this one. it does an insanely good job at taking a relatively simple concept (leif's ice powers are actually gurxing them super duper bad) and expanding on it a ton: how does this affect leif and their teammates? what's the course of action afterwards? what about the other sorcerers and how their powers work? blessing of decay manages to work in a bunch of these questions into the story and pay them off extremely well later down the line while also just having some amazing characterization related to a bunch of da cast. it's a rare case of a fic managing to constantly outdo itself with each chapter and it's fawking awesome.

(reviewed - september 2nd 2025)Super nice fic about Leif and their identity issues. I really like the way it tackles that concept where there's 2 parts of Leif: the original and the cordyceps, and I especially like how this fic bounces between the two sides during this bout of self-reflection. It's really cool to see Leif's past contextualized in a way that explains how they act now: the old Leif using 'we' due to his feelings of not fitting in, how they weren't being able to find their identity before passing away and how the current Leif carries on their memories regardless. It takes some creative liberties with Leif's story but it's done in a way where I can't really say it took away from the experience, and I liked the different take on Leif's story a lot.
