Outside, the downpour drizzled on. Oona stared, patiently, and the crook in her brow told Ramona she was devoted to understanding her. The weed made everything dreamlike, her syllables gummy in her mouth and the yellow-cyans of Oona’s profile glowing against the television.
“Like sex?” A grin split Oona a mile wide. “Ramona, baby, are you asking me to fuck you right now?”

She tried not to notice the way Oona fidgeted with her fingers whenever the conversation became quiet, or how she kept pushing her hair back whenever she seemed nervous. She tried to focus on Connor's ridiculous plans and Maple's complaints and Sully's jokes. She tried to act like sitting in the same room with Oona was perfectly normal.
Her heart, however, could not stop noticing."
It's been a year since Ramona left to go to New York, and for the first time, she's back. The only thing that summer needs to be perfect might just be two oblivious lesbians finally talking about their feelings.

Oona hums. "Slut-shaming me now? Nice one, 'Mona. New York has changed you." The nickname is not part of the plan. It slips out of Oona's mouth and it hangs in the air between the two of them; Ramona's eyes widen at its familiarity.
