Summary
For some inexplicable reason, James Potter cannot stay away from Regulus Black's funeral.
A lot of things have not made sense lately, like the crying, and the looks his mother gives him, and all the notes in the margins of a book he hasn't read.
But most of all, he doesn't understand why the strange boy with no face from his dreams won't leave him alone.
After he meets an angel at a funeral, the pieces start to fall into place but his life falls apart. -

"Regulus was never meant to be a father, and he wasn’t, but he knew he would do anything for the little girl in his best friend’s arms."

Regulus got through everything with his best friend by his side, until that wasn't an option. Then he had to figure out how to get through it with her daughter, his other friends, and maybe his new neighbor, someone he never thought he would see again who brought with him a connection to Regulus's estranged brother.

Summary
Regulus has to be at a charity gala with all of the stuck up, bigotted and rich people he grew up around and he hates it so he walks down the hall to take a break and finds James Potter, his brother's best friend, who he hasn't spoken to in years. James runs the charity the night is for so he doesn't know any of the guests except Regulus Black who walks in on him preparing his speech. After just a short conversation James realizes that his teenage crush on his best friend's brother is still going strong and somehow ends up suggesting that they spend the evening pretending to date (for Regulus's benefit, of course) and then they can go back to never seeing each other again. Except, fake dating, even for a night is never a good idea if you don't want to fall in love and especially if you already are.
Loosely inspired by the How I Met Your Mother episode when Ted and Victoria meet at that wedding. I watched that the other day and was like, "what if this was Jegulus?" and here we are.
