Grian didn’t talk to him. He longed for Grian to, longed for Grian’s touch, yet feared if he got it again he’d snuff out the little flame Grian had left. He longed to run his hands through Grian’s feathers, longed to preen him like the nights in the desert where sand would fill them.
Grian broke himself off from Scar, and he would keep doing it. He knew he shouldn’t have loved him, not here. Knew he shouldn’t have wanted him so badly. And when he looked down at his hands, covered in hallucinations of red and Scar, he knew he had made the right choice somewhere deep in him.

Grian doesn't want to be bound with Scar. Oh how he loves him, but he hurt him so greatly that he can't bare the weight of knowing all he'd do was hurt Scar. So he resorts to the only logical thing in his head to not hurt Scar.

But, what happens when two people get bound and then the Watchers decide it isn't right before the game really starts? Usually, it wouldn't affect anyone - But those two were always different. And, so, there's still a connection. And this time, Pearl isn't going to do what they want her to. She's tired of following what they want. Besides, Martyn was there, he knows what she, and the rest of them, went through. And by god is she going to fight against them now, for all of them.
(AKA a double life AU in which Martyn and Pearl originally got bound and then unbound by the Watchers before the game started, but because they both have Evo connections the bond didn't break properly, and now it ends in this. Yes I have a whole plot for this AU, shut up, I have brainrot of this stupid lore.)
