'Who are you?' the man says, his voice like the sharp sting of ocean wind, but muffled, echoing just a little bit behind the mask.
Steve would answer, but the metal hand is pressed over his throat, choking any words before they reach his tongue. He gasps in breaths, tries to pry the soldier's fingers away from his neck, tries to push him, kick him away.
'Who. Are. You?' he bites out again, only tightening his grip further so that Steve can feel his head going light. He glares at the soldier, gestures to his throat.
The soldier just makes a frustrated sound and, with his free hand, pulls out a gun.

Like, he must just live in a gym because damn. His arms were huge and flexing, crossed behind his head. Steve's blue eyes were so bright and coy that Bucky involuntarily swallowed. He followed the lines of the face he knew so well down to a chiseled chest and abdomen of a stranger, except there was the faint trace of a scar Bucky knew his Stevie had above his hip from a kick a bully'd been lucky with, and this Steve had it, too.

“Let me get your number,” Steve says finally, after they’ve stared stupidly at each other for about three hours, taking out his phone.
So they exchange numbers, and then Steve says he should go, and Bucky agrees, and they kind of stare at each other for a bit more, then Steve actually does go, but not before taking Bucky’s hand and squeezing it warmly in a way that makes Bucky want to shiver all over. Then Steve is gone, and Bucky is standing alone in the alley, grinning to himself.
Right up until the moment he remembers that Steve thinks Bucky is an escort he’s just hired.

It’s bad today. The worst of these two weeks. He’s heavily sedated. Asleep and strapped to the bed after trying to attack the doctor sent in to check his vitals. Hurt two armed guards sent in with the doctor in the process. The guards will recover after some physical therapy. If not for the sedatives in his food, he’d have escaped.
Escaped. Steve sighs. Hates thinking of it that way. He’s a patient. Not a prisoner. Yet a prisoner all the same.
“Maybe it was too soon.” Steve says to Sam. “Maybe I should have just let him come to us.”
Sam shakes his head. “Couldn’t be helped, Steve. You know that. Hydra was after him. So was the CIA. Probably other governments. Stark’s intel said they were closing in.”
He’s right. Steve knows it. Between Tony and Fury, Steve knew he and Sam weren’t the only ones searching for him. It’s best that they got him before anyone else could, but this pain in his gut, the heart wrenching, breathless feeling is overwhelming. Sometimes he wishes he’d fallen from the train instead.
