This is a story about prejudice, hurt, loss, and betrayal.
About self-loathing and a crooked perception, about making mistakes and redeeming yourself, sometimes. And sometimes not.Most of all this is a story about love. More than one kind of it.

Summary
A series of R/S AUs set in the 20 century, during the successive fall of the British Empire. Each story stands alone, though there are threads of connective tissue which hold them together---queerness, art, symmetry, mathematics, tradition, radicalism---and certain locales and themes seem to recur, even without my knowing so, like echoes of leitmotifs woven through a century.
One lens to look through the series is the progressive spinning out of Remus's station away from the center of power, into increasingly marginalized places where perhaps the iron grip of the failing Empire is more keenly felt. (Like Black Adder, in a way, if you don't think too hard!)
Though these stories were written at different times, and span different stages of even my own personal life, I decided to collect them together in recognition of their common theme, and as homage and mirror to fluorescentgrey's Empire Building series.
