MMCF Prompt 127. Remus doesn't have anything better to do with his time and is starved for connection, so he volunteers to be a pen pal for an inmate at a prison (Sirius). Over the course of their letters, they open up to each other and Remus starts to wonder if Sirius might be telling the truth about his innocence. When Sirius is granted early probation for good behavior, Remus has to decide if he wants to stay in touch...or more. (Great epistolary potential!)Commented. Instant favourite, absurd humour, brilliant prose, witty, wholesomely unhinged, best characterisation, really thoughtful commentary on Lycanthropy, poignant emotional moments, recently appointed headmaster Remus, hilariously mediocre sex, realism through the humour. Summary
In the Summer of 1969, the Lupins look for another fresh start in Aberystwyth - immediately soured when the full moon seriously damages Remus for the first time since he was infected.
Lyall can't take another complication, Hope cannot tolerate the constant isolation, and Remus is beginning to realise that his parents are not all-knowing beings who can always mend things in the aftermath. That it was their choices that built this small, secretive and claustrophobic existence that he is rapidly outgrowing.
The secret cracks open, and really, Remus was always bound to learn just how catastrophically Lyall's choices in 1965 have ruined their lives.
