Jason’s hand left smears of blood along the wall as he went, using the wall to keep himself upright and moving. He wasn’t sure where the blood was coming from, only that it was his. Each step he took, farther from that cursed building that no longer stood, sent another wave of pain up his legs and through his whole body. He didn’t know where he was going– he barely even knew how he had made it that far. All he knew was one step in front of the other.

Summary
Viktor was tired. His body hurt, and the long hours he had spent in the lab as of late had proven ultimately fruitless. He rubbed his eyes with a quiet groan before looking around for the pocket watch he had tossed somewhere on the workbench hours before. He knew it must have been late, as Jayce had already come and gone, telling Viktor to get some sleep as he left. Viktor had responded with a half hearted, ”Yes, yes.” at the time, but they both had known the words were merely an acknowledgement that Jayce had spoken.

Summary
It was well past midnight when Jayce walked into his and Viktor’s lab. He had been out on council business for most of the day, but wanted to at least double check a recent project before heading to his apartment for the night. As he looked up, however, his eyes met the silhouette of his sleeping lab partner. It was far from rare for either of them to spend some extra hours at night in the lab, but Jayce realized with a sigh that Viktor had been doing so increasingly more often. Viktor must have fallen asleep in the middle of a calculation, as his sleeping form was hunched over a sprawled stack of papers.
