Summary
Luke always had good composure. Ever since he was turned, he made a rule for himself: Never drink from those closest to you. He had broken the rule once as a young vampire and every day since, he had to live with that regret.
So he kept his control. Refused to drink from his teammates, even when he began to feel a little anemic. Even when his teammates offered themselves willingly. One in particular seemed to be fantasizing about it as of late. Luke would catch Florian with that glazed over look, only to snap out of it and smile, holding up a wrist for Luke. But Luke wouldn’t give in, no matter how nicely he asked. If his own regrets weren’t enough to hold him back, thinking about what Arber would do to him if he caught Luke draining away his brother’s life was enough to make him think twice. The brothers were so close that he was certain the word ‘torture’ wasn’t outside of the realm of possibility. It would only take a little bit of Googling vampire myths to figure out how to hurt him. Would the shaft of a hockey stick count as a stake? Luke didn’t want to find out.

Being off from hockey for 5 months, give or take, is one thing when it’s the off-season. When everyone else is off as well. Jack couldn’t even begin to imagine Freddie’s situation–being off almost exactly 4 months while everyone else continued the grind. He couldn’t imagine watching his teammates' successes and failures from the benches for that long, being incapable of doing anything more than offering a few kind words while you’re working through your own problems.
When Freddie was finally cleared to be on the ice, finally cleared to play, there was more to Jack's feelings toward him than just gratitude that his teammate was well again. There was something deeper. Something that his wandering thoughts would finally be allowed to bring to fruition.

“Nils!” Quinn exclaimed as the horned Domovoy came rushing toward him, a somber look on his face. That sobered Quinn’s excitement immediately.
Nils grabbed both of Quinn’s hands in his own, brow furrowed as his eyes searched deep into Quinn’s own. A Domovoy had the unique ability to see certain events that might unfold and warn those he considered to be family of issues that might arise–deaths, plagues, wars, any calamity that might affect whoever he wished to protect. The fact that he was looking at Quinn with such a serious expression did not bode well.
“Beware of fire,” Nils said, his tone filled with emotion. “He’s stronger than you think. Don’t do it.”
“Don’t do what?”
Shaking his head and blinking, Nils cleared away the troubled, far off expression that was on his face, his usual demeanor sliding back into place as if nothing had just occurred.

There are so many things that are frustrating about being in the NHL. The list could rival the list of files the USA has marked ‘top secret.’ Everything from missed calls to injuries on plays to trades that team management forgot to inform the player about until it’s basically time to be on ice for the game. Even more frustrating than all of those things is being gay in the NHL and trying to figure out what other players share the same orientation. As a baseline, the behaviors at a glance are already so queer. Is that player that just smacked your ass hitting on you or congratulating you on a great goal? Being naked is a requirement of showering, wandering eyes are only natural. The lines are so blurred, each act blending in to the next. So how the hell does one player express interest in another? Where is the line drawn between a celly and wanting to throw someone onto your bed and show them a true celly?
