Summary
After three months of tracking each other across the European continent, James had had enough. For both of their sakes, he planned to corner Steve in his hotel room in Budapest and finally convince him to stop chasing him by any means necessary, even though "by any means necessary" was nothing against the sheer will of Steve Rogers.
What happened next changed everything for both of them: their past, present, and future.

Summary
After Project Insight, the Soldier is left without a handler, so it returns to the only one it knows is alive -- the former target, the Captain, the man it remembers kneeling for. At first he seems unfit for the job. His protocol is strange, and he does not want to use it like the other handlers did. But as the Soldier comes to know him, it begins to think he might be the best handler it has ever had.

Summary
Barnes knows what Rogers would like to hear.
I remember you.
He doesn’t. He has wisps of memory as insubstantial as everything else the chair took from his brain. They’re always accompanied by the taste of metal in his mouth.
He stays because it’s safe, because Hydra cannot get to him here, because Rogers—still waiting for his dead friend to claw his way out of the Winter Soldier’s broken psyche—will go to the ends of the earth to find him if they do. There’s a strange security in this knowledge, but Barnes knows it won’t last. Rogers will only wait for so long, and Barnes cannot tell him that his friend died screaming in the cold.
So he watches Rogers watch him, and Barnes doesn’t know what he’s looking for, but he knows he has found it the first time he sees Rogers’s eyes drop down to his lips and dart guiltily away.
Barnes pretends he doesn’t notice and unlike Rogers, he can act. The Red Room made him well, and the Americans could ruin only so much.
He changes his act, a few weeks in. He starts looking back.
