Jaemin dips his head slightly. His hair falls into his eyes, and his smile, his mouth, oh, god, that mouth is just begging to be kissed. The most excruciating thing about this is that there’s no way for Donghyuck to tell whether Jaemin is having the same reaction as him—if anything is actually different this time. This might just be Jaemin’s business as usual: some verbal fencing, dancing around each other, teasing themselves and their friends and their fans, getting close and then parting again. Maybe it’s not special at all. Maybe it’s only Donghyuck whose stomach is coiling like a python, wrapping around itself tighter and tighter until it feels like he’ll suffocate on his own breath. But—

He almost doesn’t want to open it. He traces his fingers gingerly over the patterns on the lid of the box instead, all the little highlighter hearts, the exclamation points with x’s instead of dots. There’s a quote following the edge—from that one Bright Eyes song that used to turn Yuta to mush—and he can almost feel the sharpie in his hands, the beanie on his head that pressed his hair into his eyes. Maybe if he doesn’t open it there’s some version of him that’ll stay safe in there forever. Maybe he should just let sleeping dogs lie.

Many things in Jisung’s life are gradual.
His growth, both in skill and in height. Mark always says that he blinked and Jisung was taller than him, but it wasn’t like that, really. Jisung caught up to him over time, then overtook him. Gradual.
Gradually, he’s learned the value of getting enough sleep at night, and stopping when his muscles begin to give out, and speaking up when the weight of everyone’s eyes on him is too much.

Sicheng smirks, leaning on the counter. “Of course I meant it. I’m a man of my word.”
The boy’s eyes just can’t stay in one place—they flit from Sicheng’s mouth to his neck to his own eyes then back down again. Finally, he nods.
“I’m gonna help win,” he states. “I’ll be on the field on Friday.”
“Well, I’ll be watching. So you’d better be.”
“Good.”
“Good.”
Sicheng smiles, not quite a smirk this time. There’s a dull sort of smolder about this guy, something that sizzles every time he manages to meet Sicheng’s eyes.
