Summary
“Chris didn’t get off the bus. The bus driver said he never got on.” Buck can hear Eddie’s voice shaking, can picture that little thing he does with his mouth when he’s trying to hold it together.
“Okay, I’m coming over,” Buck says immediately, already shrugging on his jacket and grabbing for his keys.
-
Christopher goes missing. Buck, like always, is there.

Summary
It’s the eve of her wedding, and Elizabeth can’t stop looking at a dead leaf…
What if Victor's aim had gone astray by a few inches? What if the Elizabeth who lay in the Creature's arms as he carried her out of the mansion was not dying but only injured?
Far from polite Victorian society, alone with the Creature who refuses to let her die, Elizabeth must grapple with a forbidden desire that somehow feels like both sin and salvation.
And something inside her, long kept in darkness, finally starts to bloom.
(Or: Elizabeth meets the Creature again, and what we all want happens.)

Summary
"What of something that will last? Something we can exchange only between ourselves.”
She ponders this and a morbidity begins to take root in her line of thinking. Even though they are bound in every esoteric way, there remains a question pertaining to the corporeal. More physical means of bonding still escape them, willingly. Their soft touches and demure kisses are enough in some sense, yet desire creeps in. Unconventional, perhaps disturbing, but it is an unsettling conclusion which Elizabeth feels is right for them.
“I wish for your body to be a part of me and mine own to be a part of you.”

Summary
The one where the Creature enters Elizabeth's room on the wedding night first, instead of Victor's.
“Take me with you,” Elizabeth pleaded. There was a growing commotion approaching, even as her maid fled the room. “Don’t leave me.”
Don’t leave me behind, she thought. Not here, not with the hollow men and sycophants who surrounded her. Elizabeth had prayed for a sign all that time ago whether she was making the right choice, and here he was in front of her, looking as though he couldn’t believe she was real.

Summary
He was seeing ghosts. In the years of solitude he’d gone mad. There was no explanation for her presence here that was not madness. She died in his arms. He knew she was dead, he felt it, he watched her die, he watched it, and even if he had not seen her last breath leave her, centuries had passed since he had been made, she would be nothing but bones or ashes now, even if she had lived.
And yet, she stood before him, as if the centuries he’d spent wandering alone were nothing more than a horrible dream.

In the modern day, after centuries alone, Elizabeth finds him again.

Summary
The baby gives another happy little kick, and Buck honest-to-God squeals. Eddie grunts. “Jesus, it’s like she’s doing the can-can in there.”
“She’s gonna be a junior champion ballroom dancer just like her Daddy!”
Eddie scrunches up his face in distaste. “The can-can is not a type of ballroom dance.”
“Ooh,” Buck says in a teasing voice, whispering to Eddie’s belly again. “Daddy’s a snobby ballroom dancer.”

Summary
“What do you want, then?” He asks lowly, his voice still raspy from crying.
He can feel the deep breath that Eddie takes at the question. Eddie leans forward, nosing clumsily at the skin of Buck’s cheek, then his jaw.
“I want,” Eddie starts, and then he places his mouth where his nose had been, right where Buck’s jaw meets his neck. It startles a gasp out of Buck, causes his grip on Eddie to unintentionally tighten. “I want to not think about it for a little while.”
Buck and Eddie have drunken, bad idea grief sex after Bobby's funeral.
Edit: Now with a morning after scene.

Summary
Buck didn’t want to talk about his breakup. He didn’t want to think about the fact that he would probably never find love and he might as well die alone with a hoard of dogs. Everyone abandons him and there’s no use trying anymore. He definitely did not want to think about what Tommy said.

Summary
It’s been three weeks. But Buck looks up at him with red-rimmed eyes and it feels like no time has passed at all.
“It’s raining,” Eddie says, instead of what are you doing here, because he already knows the answer. “Come inside before you get pneumonia.”

Summary
Buck sits in the locker room at the end of his shift, his cell phone in his hand. There's a photo of Christopher and Eddie on his lock screen; it was taken a few months ago when the three of them had taken a drive up to Topanga one weekend. There wasn't a cloud in the sky and the two of them were sitting with their backs to the camera, Eddie's arm around his son's shoulders as they looked out at the broad expanse of the Pacific.
Buck had loved the picture when he'd taken it – it was pretty arty for a cell phone snapshot – but now it just makes him feel alone. Like he's on the outside looking in.
Like maybe he always will be.

Summary
There’s mud on his hands. There’s mud on his hands and he has to dig deeper, quicker, because Eddie is forty feet beneath him and surely he can’t breathe because the well is gone and Eddie is gone and Buck can’t follow him.
“Eddie,” his throat feels raw, the words wrong to his ears, “Eddie.”
“Yeah,” Eddie says, holding onto him, “I'm right here, Buck, I’m right here.”
“I can’t—” Buck breaks off, his trembling, dirty hand in the air and Eddie must understand because he takes Buck's hand without question and pulls it to his chest, right over his heart.

Summary
“I really shouldn’t do this over the phone—on a fucking voicemail, of all things, but I—”
Eddie breaks off with a choked noise. He’s sitting in the parking lot of Trader Joe’s, for Christ’s sake. Peak of romance, Diaz, he thinks, and then laughs. Buck deserves so much better than this. Then him. But Frank said be brave, and Eddie is—really, really fucking trying.
“But I love you. I’m in love with you. And I want you to come home.”

Summary
Buck doesn’t think that if he were to say, “I’m in a bad place”, that anyone would turn him away. Really, he doesn’t. The 118 has too many good, kind people for that.
But every time he wants to open his mouth, to say something, to reach out to Eddie or Bobby or Hen or Chim, he hears Eddie yelling, “you’re exhausting.”
—you’re exhausting, you’re exhausting, you’re exhausting—
So each day he does his job and he laughs and he jokes and he pretends he’s the care-free goofball he’s always been. And each day he packs away his bruises and his worries, takes them home to his empty loft with its quiet rooms, and licks his wounds in silence.

Summary
He still gets stuck in it sometimes: the absolute silence after the shot, and time so, so still in that endless second when Eddie’s eyes met his. When the air turned cool against the skin of Buck’s face because there was something else, now, something warmer, sticky in his eyelashes, pooling at the corner of his mouth. Staining him in a way that will never, never come out, all in the time it took to remember how to breathe again.
It didn’t happen fast at all. There are days when Buck wakes up and thinks it might still be happening.
And Eddie is—Eddie won’t—Eddie—

Summary
There’s a drawer at the bottom of Eddie’s dresser that has the things he’s left here over the years, most likely in a heap – Eddie has mentioned more than once that he’s ‘not Buck’s laundry service’, which always prompts Buck to tell him that no, he wouldn’t be Buck’s laundry service, he’d be Eddie’s laundry service because why would he name it after him?
Anyway, the point is that he’s expecting to find his clothes in a pile, but when he opens the drawer, everything is neatly folded and divided into sections; a smattering of mismatched socks that are paired together and set on top of a few pairs of basketball shorts, three work t-shirts that he knows are from the last time he had to come help Eddie after an injury, a nicer sweater he spilled wine on one Christmas, and his favorite pair of sweatpants that he knows he leant Eddie the last time he stayed the night at Buck’s.
That, uh… sure is something.
