    Ugh, this again.

    Jason curls up more tightly, wedging his nose beneath his tail so he can’t see whatever ‘adopters’ have come to peer piteously at him. He considers the logistics of making another escape attempt if the door is opened—until, that is, a boy’s voice abruptly arrests his attention.

    “No,” Damian Wayne says, kneeling before Jason’s kennel. “I want this one.”

    Jason encounters a villain who turns people into animals.

    Damian, meanwhile, adopts a dog.

    The Last Ronin survives the fight with Oroku Hiroto. He didn't expect that. He no longer can hear his brothers, and it makes him just a little bit lonely. They were just like his brothers, yet so different…

    Someone had to stay and do the work of Batman. Batman needed a Robin, even if that Batman was Dick now. Maybe especially because it was Dick. Tim needed to go, needed to get whatever this was out of his system, and they couldn’t let him do it alone in this state. Damian needed a sense of purpose, something to give him an assurance of his place here when it had been so rattled with Bruce's loss.

    It made sense, Dick and Damian in Gotham, Jason with Tim. The only reasonable solution, and none of them were happy with it.

     

    (Or: Tim’s quest to prove Bruce is alive plays out differently when the family starts off in a better place with each other. Tim does still lose his spleen, though. That is definitely a thing that happens.)

    "Back off, blue." The copycat growled, holding Penguin high in the air. The man that stood before Nightwing looked like some crude, edgy imitation of everything Batman stood for.

    When Dick Grayson arrived at the massacre in The Narrows, he expected to conront a deranged fanboy. What he found was a Bruce Wayne with less age and experience than him. One who hadn't grown up with billions under his name, never had Robins, and was waging a war on Gotham that had broken him first.

    Or

    Absolute Batman lands in the Mainline universe and learns that maybe his mission doesn't need to be a lonely one.
