Summary
As it stood, Eddie knew exactly what sort of person he was. He was a shitty, neurotic, repressed as all hell pretentious asshat, and he made every single decision every single day of his life based off of that knowledge. Sure, deciding to get screwed was a weird - but perhaps inevitable - lapse, but he thought he’d chosen the person to screw him quite well. Some average sort of guy on a dating app; no connection, no prospect, no chance in hell of ever having to see him again aside from weird eye contact at an H-E-B seven months after they’d had mind-blowingly average sex.
But Richie fucked all that up about as thoroughly as he fucked Eddie himself. Which, as he thought about as much as he tried to avoid thinking about, was very thoroughly.

Richie momentarily considers dropping his phone in the tub to kill it, and then he remembers that it is 2017 and phones are like, waterproof now. Steve Jobs might be dead, but Richie curses him regardless.
“What the fuck, man?” he says, a little too high pitched. “Is it you Bill is divorcing? Are you his lawyer? How are these two related in any way? You can’t just—”
“Bill needs me, Richie.” Mike’s voice is gentle but firm, like that makes any sense.
“Dude, what am I going to do for 3 months? I’ve got no gigs coming up, no media appearances. Everything's on hold.”
A pause. Then Mike says, “What are you talking about, man? Eddie is still going.”

“Pause your what?” He chokes out, panicked, “Buddy, hey man. Dude. Are you alright? Jesus.” He taps the hot guy’s cheeks a few times with no response before he fumbles in his pocket to find his phone. Patty was going to kill him. Just when he was supposed to be getting back out there with a positive spin on his coming out he’d gone and accidentally murdered someone at 5 am in New York just trying to get coffee. His life could not be more of a joke. He finally manages to pull his phone from his endless, gaping hole of a pocket while still keeping Hot Guy propped when the man’s eyes flutter open again."
