Summary
I wrote this back in 2023 after reading Tommy Orange's There There. The piece takes place just before the big powwow, showing how Opal discovers her grandsons' plan to attend (and participate in) the event, and why she chooses to stop them. There are brief mentions of illness and alcoholism, but is less explicitly shown than in the novel. Posting for personal archive reasons mostly, but if anybody is interested that's a fun bonus :)

Summary
Things with Reggie feel as close to perfect as they can be, and Archie can't help but be enveloped in the comfort their relationship brings. It's something to look forward to every morning and every night, knowing that there will always be a warm smile waiting by his bedside.
It hasn't always been easy, of course. A few short months ago Reggie was shying away whenever their fingertips brushed in the halls, and they'd often end up in arguments about where their boundaries laid for public displays. But, just like with souping up an old jalopy, it's amazing what some hard work and elbow grease can accomplish.
So, three months and a few days later, Archie's flipping pancakes and frying eggs for the man of his dreams in their shared kitchen.

Jughead flicks on the lightswitch to his right and gasps, his gaze suddenly glued to the mirror in front of him.
There, standing shoulder-to-shoulder with him, is Archie. He's slumped downwards slightly, his spine hunched forward in c-shape, his body eerily looming over Jughead's, and his chest cavity is nothing but a gaping hole.

Summary
Because Archie just couldn’t stop thinking about Reggie, no matter how hard he tried. It only got worse the more time they spent together, until he found himself daydreaming about taking Reggie out to Pops, and sitting in the booth next to him where it’d be so easy to hold his hand underneath the table. Maybe Archie would pretend to yawn so he could wrap his arm around Reggie’s shoulders like he’d seen guys do in movies, and Reggie would laugh and lean into the touch. And then Archie would remember that he’s not at Pops with Reggie, he’s in English class, and he’s not supposed to be having thoughts like that in the first place.
He knows words now that he didn’t in 1955, labels and terms that should help him make sense of everything, of who or what he is, but he’s still so confused.
