"Jamie?" the softness and worry in Roy’s voice startles himself as he kneels at the foot of the body. Lo and behold, Jamie fucking Tartt is lying crumpled (maybe unconscious) on his kitchen floor. There's a scary second where Roy considers Jamie being potentially dead, but he's able to dismiss that thought when Jamie makes a quiet whimper.
OR: Jamie gets hurt by his dad, Roy’s there for him.

“I know what a camera is, Jamie,” Roy says in an exasperated tone “Why is it in your hands? Are you being so underpaid you have to take a second job as a fucking pap?”
“Roy, I’ll always be underpaid, no amount of money can pay for the miracles I perform on that pitch,” Jamie brags with his free hand on his chest, Roy looks at him the whole time like he wants to murder him “This is just some therapy shit, or summat.”
“What is therapeutic about taking fucking pictures?” Roy asks him entirely confused instead of his regular angry.
“I don’t know, you tell me,” Jamie responds and seems lost in thought.

Sam was worried about Jamie. Well, maybe worried was a bit of a strong word. It wasn’t like there was anything particularly wrong with Jamie, he wasn’t quiet and drawn the way he got that one time that freaked everyone out, Sam was just… concerned for his friend. That night at the Crown & Anchor was one for the history books. Mae kept the drinks endlessly flowing, and Roy had been unabashedly giddy and not afraid of anyone knowing it, especially Jamie. He hung off of him most of the night, except for when he’d stood on a barstool to do a slightly slurred, off-balance toast about how bloody proud he was of all of them, almost as gooey as a speech from Ted but with a hell of a lot more swearing. He’d led a round of shots with Beard. He’d chanted Richmond ‘Til We Die louder than any of the rest of them. He’d called an uber at the end of the night, and told Jamie he was coming with him.
Of course Jamie had gone.
Years after Ted’s departure, Jamie is nominated for a major award. It brings to the surface feelings he’s longed since buried, and a night from the past he hasn’t been able to forget.

So maybe Jamie is tempting fate a little bit when he invites Keeley out for ice cream. Keeley agrees but seems to know he’s up to something. She snorts, eyes twinkling, and then does her own exaggerated lick of her double-scoop Strawberries and Marshmallow. “Want to tell me why we’re giving the paps a show?”
And Jamie’s got no good answer to that. Like, he’s got an answer. He’s not even sure it’s a bad answer. But he feels right stupid saying it out loud. Because the petty little truth is that he wants Roy’s attention.
