“Wait!” the thing cried, its voice getting impossibly more scratchy and higher in pitch. Seth had to flinch at the way it pierced his ears. “Please! Let me explain!”
“I think you’ve explained plenty,” Seth replied, rolling up the sleeves of his quarter-zip. “Claiming that I am destined for a future where I turn into a giant robot that defeats weekly enemies? Not to mention going to a school where I learn magic?! I have my diploma!”
The thing cowered, retreating and deflating. Clearly it was afraid of the notion of an intellect.
“…not your magical diploma…” it peeped, then immediately fled behind the dumpster at the back of the alley as Seth took a swing at it. Damn, it was kind of fast.
or:
The Seekers get stuck in another world, enrolled in a magical academy and enlisted in the realm's defense force of spell-casting, frilly-skirt-wearing robots. They'd leave immediately, but there's a weekly generic enemy to defeat, spells to weaponize and exploit, and...romance to deal with?!
But the bigger threat to them might be the fact that they can't leave at all without maybe, actually dying. Bummer.

Petrichor hasn't come to the town of Iacon's End for long time. It's dry enough to bake someone to the bone by the time Eliza Owens rides in on the intention of finding the cause of an uproar back in the central metropolis Iacon. It won't bode well for her or the people she's trying to investigate the longer she stays here and the more knowledge--or memories--she gains.
The more intelligent, the less sane; here, sanity seems to reduce from an inherency to an option.
It's no wonder she starts wading into murky waters with the "witch-girl" by her side.
