    Izuku wasn’t sure where the idea came from, or why anyone could have ever thought it was a good idea. Ripped away from the dark runway that he called home base, Izuku was thrown into what the scavengers had warned him of—legal custody of a hero.

    Or, in his case, multiple heroes.

    He wasn’t sure why. He wasn’t even sure the specific date—he could never keep track of time, anyway, not with all that went on—but one minute he was baring his teeth to another person and the next he was somewhere calm and without blood or smoke. One moment he was there and the next he was being told he was safe, now. He was safe then. Izuku had been safe this whole time.

    He didn’t know what they were talking about.

    (or: izuku is just trying to escape his new legal custodians after being stolen from the only life he knew. the universe has other plans for him, including healing.)

    If you do things, do they matter if no one experiences them but you? That was the question Izuku kept asking himself as the days went by. Maybe. He was lonely in most houses, beaten in others. Having no quirk did that to you—the system didn’t automatically place you in an orphanage even though you were a lost cause. It meant Izuku had time to think and try and manage himself. Keep himself entertained as he tried to estimate how long it would be before social services let him go back with his mom.

    All of his plans blew up in his face when he manifested a quirk that was nothing like his mom’s and nothing like his dad’s.

    If you do things, do they matter if no one experiences them but you? It was like the falling tree scenario. The only difference was that it was Izuku’s life and he was about to run headfirst into a mess he couldn’t clean up with bloodied hands and bath salts in a foster house.

    (or: izuku is placed into foster care after his relationship with his mother snaps, forcing himself to try and figure out why he got his quirk after she let go of him. he gains someone’s vigilance in the aftermath.)
