Yunho hasn’t finished writing this book yet. He's only a few chapters in. He has a vague idea of the plot but no clue where the characters will eventually take it. When he wakes up in a world he recognizes from his own imagination, he becomes a member of the party, on an adventure and interested to see where their quest will lead them.

When San asks his mother how he was injured, she waves her hands and shakes her head, mumbling, “Too complicated. You’ll forget again.” The only real information she gives him over breakfast is that there was some kind of accident and a brain injury. She doesn’t say what happened or how much he’s forgotten, but the calendar on the wall says it’s October. The last date he remembers was sometime in August.

San was willing to overlook almost anything. After all, he was desperate to find a new place, and the bedroom he was offered once he passed the potential housemate interview looked like somewhere he'd be comfortable calling home. It was small but cozy, still big enough to fit most of what he had in storage, and it was freshly painted a pretty, soft lilac. It wasn't perfect, but it would definitely suffice.
Things took a downhill turn almost from the moment he moved in.

Summary
There is a literal gate. It’s wrought iron and rusty and, oddly, not attached to any kind of fence or wall. It looks as though one could simply walk around it, but when Wooyoung steps beyond the edge of the gate to get a clear look inside, all he sees is a park. A grassy field surrounded by trees, worn dirt trails, a couple of benches in shady spots. Meanwhile, through the bars of the gate is an entirely different picture.
A crumbling road winds through a graveyard of collapsing buildings. The sky is hazy, almost the color of sand. The ground is dry, with no hint of vegetation aside from a few withered bushes and tree trunks devoid of leaves.
The faint smell of fire and sulfur emanates from the other side, and there are figures moving about, floating through the streets. Some look almost human, but most of them are nothing more than shapeless, faint grey clouds. Wooyoung has been warned that these are souls, that if he wishes to return from this place he must not touch them.
He’s done his research. Wooyoung knows that he will not be allowed entrance without either some form of payment or a good enough reason, and he thinks his reason is good enough to avoid payment. You see, Wooyoung is cursed.

Summary
Waking up was slow and started with sounds.
First there was the beeping, steady and constant. A rhythmic whooshing that, unfortunately, didn’t sound anything like the ocean. Then there was the smell of something chemical and sterile. Antiseptic and rubbing alcohol. There were things touching Yeosang’s skin, wrapped around his limbs and draped over his body, and something warm encompassing one of his hands.
There was pain, too, but it was fuzzy and dull, almost in the background. It hurt too much to open his eyes, though. Probably because of the light. And then all of that faded back into nothing again. -

“What do you need to know?” Seonghwa asks. He can already see the hazy form of a person hovering over the half-drained pool. The long, dark hair and floral dress match the body lying a few feet away. “Just ask and I’ll get you the answers you need.”
“Well, first off, a name. Her name. Yeosang printed her, but it’ll take a while to get an ID that way. Jongho will wait for confirmation, but if you can tell us who she is, it’ll give me a head start.”
Nodding, Seonghwa waits for the spirit to realize that someone can see her. It takes a moment. Her eyes are glued to her own body, but when she lifts her gaze to scan the area, she stops on Seonghwa and tilts her head. He smiles at her, hoping he doesn’t look as sad as he feels.

Namjoon is already at the podium when Yoongi arrives for rehearsal the next afternoon. He’s talking to Jungkook, pointing to different sections of the room as he gives instructions. Yoongi frowns around the reed in his mouth as he assembles his clarinet.
“He’s diligent,” Hoseok says from behind him, arms resting on the back of Yoongi’s chair. “He was here before me, and it was my turn to set up all the drums and chimes today.”
“He’s annoying,” Yoongi gripes as he attaches the reed to the mouthpiece. “He’s arrogant. He thinks he can come in here and change everything and it’ll make us better?”
“He’s not arrogant. He’s confident. And that’s the conductor’s job, Yoongs.” Hoseok argues. “He’s good at what he does, too. Did you hear how much better the cellos sounded last rehearsal? I’d say his confidence is merited. Jin has never played so well.”
“That’s because Jin is usually too distracted by Jungkook. You’ve seen the way they flirt around the podium.”
“Yeah, but everyone else is captivated by Namjoon. Why are you so resistant?”
“Because I’m not here to flirt. I’m not here to watch a pretty pair of hands wave around up there. I’m here to play. I’m here to perform.”

Summary
The new roommate is named Seonghwa, and he showed up under slightly mysterious circumstances about two weeks into the new semester when Jongho’s old roommate failed to return following summer break. Student housing waited as long as possible before reassigning the room, but when Hyunwoo hadn’t attended a single class for two weeks they had no other choice.
Seonghwa is nice, don’t misunderstand. He’s nice, and he’s… Well, quite honestly, he’s very attractive. He cooks sometimes, almost always for himself. He does keep the apartment clean, which is more than Jongho can say for himself. He mostly stays in his own room, leaving the common areas to Jongho and his friends who sometimes come over to study. Jongho doesn’t mind Seonghwa as a person. It’s just that he’s a bit… odd.

“It is not forever,” Seonghwa whispers, holding Hongjoong close. “One life cycle is not that long, and then you will be able to join me. We can be together on earth as humans.”
“I like being with you as gods,” Hongjoong pouts just to see if Seonghwa will kiss him. He does. He always does, lips soft and cool against Hongjoong’s.
“It will be better on earth,” Seonghwa promises. “Sun and Moon are not meant to be together here, but on earth we will just be two normal humans.”
“Two normal humans with history as gods.”
“All normal humans have history. That is what soulmates are, and everyone has a soulmate. I will be looking for you.”
“You will not even remember me,” Hongjong mutters. “You could see me on the street right in front of you, and you would not know me.”
Seonghwa gently touches his fingers to Hongjoong’s chin and tips his face until he’s looking up into Seonghwa’s eyes. “I might not remember who you are, but I will know immediately that you are mine.”
