Summary
Just two decades ago the world was full of magic.
Faeries and dryads lived in the woods, sorcerers and merfolk walked among ordinary humans. Some even claimed to have seen a dragon’s tail disappear into the mists above the mountains.
All of them were gone now. Twenty years of repeated raids and merciless executions had wiped out every trace of magic in Essempi - anyone that survived had gone into hiding, fleeing to other kingdoms for refuge where they could.
________________________Tubbo is the last living sorcerer in Essempi. He hates the royal family and what they have done to him, to his people, to his life.
Tommy is the Crown prince of Essempi. He hates magic-users and what they have done to him, to his people, to his life.
When Tubbo takes a post as Tommy's manservant, they both realise just how lonely they were - and how wrong they may have been.

The story does not truly start here.
No fairytales ever do– no, stories like these often begin in simpler places. Simpler stories, ones that belong to the people and not the kings. Stories that are told around campfires, told around the butter churn and whispered around hearths. Stories told to children as they’re tucked into bed, gentle warm hands soothing their brows and speaking with low tones as they relay the stories of grandeur and magic. Fairytales are often piled upon– one magic spell becomes two. A mother changes the prince’s name to her own dear son. Tommy was once told stories like these.

Siren sighs. One hand comes up to his face, and Tommy freezes. No. Don’t take your mask off. I can’t look at you, not now.
But the villain just runs a hand through his hair, letting out a shuddering breath. “You… you kinda changed? I swear, you’re acting so different, Toms. I just don’t know what happened.”
That’s my line, Tommy’s heart mumbles. That’s my hell.
But his mouth manages to shape the words, even if his heart refuses to believe them.
“No. Nothing happened.”

“Something has been stolen from us,” Thanatos said, his wings puffing up as he spoke. “Something that is very important to us. And we are fairly certain that the person who stole this thing of ours is in this very crowd.”
Dream tensed beside Tommy as the crowd broke out into murmurs. Eyes were darting towards the different heroes in the crowd, the benefactors no doubt assuming that the culprit had to be a hero.
“Like we said, we haven’t crashed your party to cause trouble. But we want this thing returned to us, and we won’t hesitate to take extreme measures to get what we want.”
or, Tommy was a lot of things: a newly debuted hero sidekick, an amnesiac, and a former kidnapping victim of the Syndicate.
Tommy didn't actually remember that last one though. That was just what Dream told him.
Only weeks after his hero debut, the Syndicate announces they are searching for something, and Tommy knows it has to be him. The scariest part? If they find him, Tommy will have no clue what to expect, because the Syndicate might know him, but he has no memories of them.
So he can't let them find him. No matter what.
Of course they end up finding him anyway.

The realization sent him gasping for oxygen- the numb haze falling instantly.
Fuck.
It hurt.
The messages on his laptop continued to pile up as he slumped against the wall. They would kill him if he died. Couldn't change the outcome though, could he?
Just another shitty foster home.
Tommy's been in the foster system for a long, long time. Tubbo's been by his side longer. Ranboo, while the newest of the three, is still someone Tommy trusts with his life (he has had to, before).
He's not sure what to think of his newest family, one father and two adopted kids, one of which is the Technoblade.
Regardless, Natalie is giving him the usually talk, which he could probably recite from memory at this point- and they're pulling up to the new home.
Maybe this house would turn out better than the last, Tommy mused, his ribs aching in memory.
“Alright,” Natalie slows down in front of one of the buildings. It's a deep green, almost grey, with a kept front yard and a slightly chipping door. “We’re here.”Only time would tell.
This is a fic I've already written but I'm doing a rewrite!!
