“Suddenly, the rain on the roof intensified, then stopped altogether. Something - not something, they knew exactly what it was - blotted out most of the moonlight. The wind outside suddenly picked up, whistling and howling loudly.
“What the hell is that?” Roxana said from behind Phoenix, suddenly wide awake. Then, more forcefully: “Phene, what the hell is that?!”
Phoenix dared a glance out of the window (dammit, Reggie was still out there somewhere). The wall of rain wasn’t on top of them anymore, it was a few hundred feet out in the desert.
“It’s above us,” Phoenix whispered, and it hadn’t sunk in for them until that moment how absolutely massive this thing was, it could probably kill them all right now if it wanted.
