Summary
Following the freeing of Caldarus’ from his statue, the farmer starts to spend most of their days visiting the newly mortal dragon. Piece by piece, they fall in love.

Snippet:
A shiver runs down your spine and claws, neatly filed and placed just so against the small of your back, guide you to the fire pit in the center of his room. A towel and a cup of tea find their way into your hands before you even have the chance to speak. He takes a seat opposite you, his own cup pressed close to his chest, those same soft talons curled around his mug. They flex as he looks at you. From the other side of the fire he says, “Mortal bodies are fragile, you must take care of yours.”

Eventually, he stops dead in the middle of the room, turns to Shepard, and just says it: “I don’t know if I did the right thing.”
Shepard stands and comes over to lean heavily against Garrus’s chest. She’s heavy and warm and trusts him implicitly. “You did,” she murmurs. “You showed him mercy. That’s always the right choice.”
Garrus sighs. “I… I’ll choose to believe you, Shepard.”
Do humans… know anything about turian affection? Probably not. So maybe… maybe… fuck it. She’s his best friend. He fell apart without her. She’s trusted him since the beginning. Garrus bends his neck and presses his forehead to Shepard’s. Immediately, he can feel himself relax, like a child cuddling their parent; this is safe. This is good. Shepard is trustworthy.
If she says it was the right choice, then it must be.
Two tired soldiers cling to each other amidst the swelling dread of the coming Reapers, and Garrus keeps forgetting to wash this blanket that smells like Shepard. Oh well, he IS very busy, lately.

The first thought Garrus had after seeing Shepard for the first time in a decade was that he should have known ‘Commander Shepard - Hope for Humanity’ was in fact Jane Shepard, the same kid, now woman, he had once wished -threatened- to push out an airlock.
An alternate universe where Shepard and Garrus grew up together, drifted apart, and found each other again during a re-telling of Mass Effect 1. The story is interspersed with important moments from Shepard's childhood.
This is a 3-Part Series (completed) and totals about ~100k words.
