She breathed in, through her nose, out, through her mouth. Once, twice, repeat. Samira felt her heart rate slow. Unclenching her fists, she looked down at her hands. Her nails left crescent moon-shaped imprints on her palm, and she traced them with the pad of her finger. Another deep breath. Samira looked at herself in the mirror, wiped a smudge of mascara under her eye, and splashed some cold water onto her face.
The bathroom door opened.

Summary
So they sit down next to their measly tree with a few stale cookies and half burnt candles and Dennis reads the christmas story with the serious demeanor of an altar boy.
"In those days" it starts and Trinity thinks back to those days when life was simple and she still believed in things. But her life has beaten the faith out of her and she doesn't believe in god enough to blame him for it.
