Summary
“Eddie, I’m in love with you,” he says, heart thrumming in his chest, in his throat, in his mouth. He feels hot and cold and dizzy by turns.
“What?” asks Eddie faintly, barely even a question.
“I’m in love with you,” Buck says again. “I didn’t know, I didn’t mean to, but I am. I am.”
“You– Right, okay,” says Eddie, so visibly buffering that it makes Buck’s heart clench a little in his chest. Of course he’s in love with Eddie. How could he possibly have let himself pretend otherwise. “Wasn’t expecting this, bud,” says Eddie, and he sounds so shocked that Buck can’t help a wry smile. Of course Eddie’s surprised. They must be the only two people in existence who didn’t already know. “I– Buck, man, you know that I care about you, but…”
“I know,” he says gently to Eddie, because he did know, but that doesn't make this moment hurt any less.
---
Post season 8, Buck confesses his feelings, Eddie lets him down as gently as he can, and they both try to figure out how to be just friends.

Summary
Eddie’s life had gone to shit in roughly every possible way.
He felt about two seconds away from breaking every hour of every day, like someone had stepped up in front of him, shoved him down, smashed the life he’d been working on, and left him to rebuild from the ground up.
And so, really, the last thing he needed when he got home at the end of a long shift was to find a massive, weird-ass dog curled up on his front porch. And yet, there it was.

Summary
“Eddie’s getting the house ready for you. I’ll text him to set up the shower chair.”
“What house?” Buck asks, tugging on her coat sleeve like a little kid when she pulls her phone out. “I don’t have a shower chair.”
“Eddie’s house.” She answers on autopilot, waiting for Eddie’s confirmation before slipping the phone away to give him her full attention. “You don’t have a couch, and even if you did, you have to take it easy for a week or two. Maddie wanted to take you but the guest room isn’t set up yet. I said I could give you Denny’s room for a bit but Eddie was not happy with you having to climb any stairs. I think he assumed you were going home with him anyway.”
“I don’t have any clothes.”
“Eddie took care of that.”
“Or underwear.”
"Eddie's got it."
"He definitely forgot my shampoo. He doesn't like how my new one smells."

Summary
“I don’t think that’s a good idea, mate,” says a voice Buck can safely say he has never heard before, though it sounds inexplicably like Matty Healy, frontman of The 1975.
“What the fuck,” he breathes, heart thumping loudly in his ears. “H-hello?”
“Down here, dipshit,” his kettle says. Buck stares. “Yep. You’re looking right at me, clever guy.”
Numbly, he says, “What. What? What.”
“Jesus Christ, man.” His kettle whistles quietly, like it’s sighing. “This is pathetic. Find your equilibrium.”
“Why are you British?” he blurts.
“Oh, fuck off.”
Whispering, Buck asks, “Why are you mean?”
Or: Buck's kettle suddenly gains sentience.
