And Todd nods as he sniffles, blinking as his eyes threaten to blur. He can only nod when he feels his teacher pat him on the shoulder, murmuring apologies that he doesn’t need to say at all.
“I just wish they didn’t have to take him away. I mean, he’d be alright. I think he’d be, but…”
When he spends a considerable amount of time in silence, Keating takes this opportunity to voice out what’s in his mind, and to say what he’s been seeing in all of Todd since he entered the room, nerves and all.
“Now, why do you care so much?” he starts off gently, careful in the way he says it, like stepping on a puddle, “You’re the one who hasn’t been around for a long time, especially with him. It’s only been four months that you’ve known each other, that you’ve known Mr. Perry.”
“Well, yeah, but he’s my roommate. He’s my friend. And…and he’s helped me…a lot.”
“But it’s a lot more than that. Isn’t it, Todd?”
Where Neil runs back to Welton and tells Todd about his parents' plans to send him away, and Todd has to come to terms with all of what he feels before it happens.

this story feels so quiet & so dreamy in a very old & specific way. i like most how far removed it is from the original world cuz of how more fleshed out the overall culture is compared to the binary euro historical dependent world jkr created. its treatment of magic as a nuance & fluent thing implies rootedness in sth real instead of sth simple & commercialized. the magic feels older. i like the quiet.
and i ADORE how it treats the wizarding world as a completely separate society from the muggle one thru the culture norms attitudes etc & everything else! i love that! i love when fantasy allows itself complete separation from reality & doesnt depend on it entirely to act as a backdrop to explain the fantasy’s world. u can see it so clearly w the way all the ppl in the wizworld act vs harry & his preconceptions. theres no dependency on enculturation for the world to be viewed as sth that is alive & w history! just their treatment of characters like draco & other trans & genderqueer ppl as not even anything worth batting an eye at & that their grievances are rooted in sth else entirely consistent within the systems & preconditions of the society & how it operates within this specific environment w its own distinct history & values & priorities. so few fics ive seen have done this & i think thats why i hold a fondness for this. i just love this type of world building. focus to the actual bones & not the more glamorous ones like magic systems which i believe count as secondary accessories when creating fantasy & an entirely new world. sooooo well done mwah
imo the greatest drarry stories r literally the ones where draco gets pregnant. & i feel theyre the most unpopular bc i dont think ppl r not looking hard enough! fics like these actively call to challenge how people perceive draco as a character (& the ways in which he is functionally a woman within jkr’s canon narrative) & when it doesnt align with how they ideally view him they dnf it or dni. & i feel any drarry story can be so widely praised & well received but it always feels lacking especially always when it comes to draco & his character & it is because of that one important thing: gender.
i just feel like youve got to embrace a level of weirdness to be able to interrogate an idea properly & approach it properly & completely otherwise we’d just be saying the same pointless things over & over

john green is shaking. fic so good im seeing it as the 90s 2000s film drama playing before my eyes.
i think this fic succeeds well with showing the conflict between the two of them & making both characters be sympathetic & allowing you to empathize with them. you can understand the constraints of what theyre going thru & it allows a very human type of thing to blossom within both characters

what if the real character growth was the baby we gestated along the way
i think i have a sort of weakness for this genre because i feel like mpreg feels like it forces & pushes the characters to evolve. instead of reiterating & saying the same things & repeating the same problems over & over, w mpreg when done right these characters are placed in a scenario where they have to grow Beyond what they already are. instead of changing the line between point a and point b, with good mpreg its we’re already done with point a and point b lets add another point point c. we’ve moved past that enemies forbidden love thing with their relationship now its completely internal & Centric to their characters! who they are what they are to each other & WHO they are to each other. it forces them both to evolve to a next state of being & i like how productive that feels compared to the more common approach of exploring in betweens
everything is a metaphor, you can never go too far with it but there is a level to do it rightly & i think this work succeeds in that

i love this work so much that i get so sad when i remember it isn't real… its so hoa hoa weather rural gothic rural decay in everything. this fic has made its own world & its a thriving one. whenever i imagine village i think of this & all the many things that have been done here & i see it all so vividly
