Summary
It’s not exactly that Warren Godby could not die. He was, in fact, rather good at dying. He enjoyed it even – though that didn’t sound very healthy, and so he preferred not to think about it too often.
But the fact was that dying wasn’t all that bad. When he tried to put it into words (which was, by definition, impossible), he said it was like the end of a long summer day. The first breeze of cool air that brings promises of night, promises of peace, promises of an ending.
So no, dying wasn’t a problem for Warren, but staying dead was.

Warren dies a lot but never for long, and Gordon is the socially incompetent Grim Reaper assigned to take his soul. Shenanigans ensue.

Sighing, Arthur finally turns to face him. His expression is weary, loaded with the same tension coiling throughout his thin frame. For a second he seemed as though he were going to move forward, and it would have been so easy then to wrap him up in an embrace. But he stops halfway through, head still facing down. The air between them grows a little colder.

Summary
They barely spoke at all when they went to bed. The nerve-wracking reality of sharing space, just inches apart, overpowered any instinct to chat. So they said nothing, falling asleep to the sound of the other’s breathing until it was time for one or both of them to be woken by a nightmare.
The first night, it was Martin. He tossed and turned in his sleep, badly enough to shake Jon from his own bad dreams, so Jon could hear the second he woke with a hitched, choked breath.
“It’s alright,” he whispered. “You’re alright, it was just a dream.”
“Jon?”
“I’m here.”
Jon reached across and slipped his hand into Martin’s, and Martin squeezed it like a lifeline. They didn’t say anything else, after that, but when they finally fell asleep nearly an hour later, their hands were still clasped together.
