Summary
A year in the life of Bucky Barnes and Steve Rogers in 1940-1941.
The room is small, the apartment isn’t much bigger. They live out of suitcases and boxes, not staying in one place for more than six months at a time, but in a room with no windows, Steve has never felt more at home, squeezed onto a narrow twin bed with his very best friend. Steve’s hands are cold when they close over Bucky’s and his fingers find the spaces between his and as if it is the only thing Bucky’s body knows how to do, he curls his fingers, trapping Steve’s with his.

Defrosting is supposed to take a while, a hunk of meat isn’t supposed to thaw in minutes in a machine, at least that isn’t how Steve remembers it. The bigger the cut, the longer it takes.

It might take a year, we’ll have to cross rivers, weave through mountain passes and miles of forests. It might take longer if we go too north and the snow brings a winter chill that tests his body, but we’ll get there.
