    There was a man Peter passed every day on his way home from school. He was scraggy and unkempt and very obviously homeless. He had long brown hair with some peppering of grey that hung in his face, and a beard to match. No matter how warm the day was, he covered himself in a thick jacket that hung off his bony frame. When it was rainy or cold, he sat in the subway. When he was chased off from there, he did his best to cling to awnings and the sides of buildings. But the most distinctive thing about him, what made Peter actually take notice of this one man in the entire homeless population of New York, was the cardboard sign he carried around with him. It read, in slightly shaky capital letters:

    WILL INVENT FOR FOOD

    But most of the time, Peter didn’t think about him. He went to school, absolutely killed at decathlon, took his T shots, made up secret handshakes with Ned, was Spider-Man, was yelled at by Aunt May when she discovered he was Spider-Man, and loved New York City with all his heart. There just wasn’t enough time to worry about this one homeless man.

    “Holy SHIT!” he screams at the top of his lungs, dropping his pizza and jumping at the sudden appearance.

    Upon realizing it’s only Natasha, he tries to calm his racing heart and begins laughing almost hysterically, because he hasn’t been startled in almost two years; since he gained his powers (aside from the first time he heard FRIDAY speak, but we don’t talk about that). Of course it’d be Natasha to startle him.

    Once his laughing quells, he sucks in a breath and tells Natasha, “Dang, you got me good there.”

    Nobody else says anything. Tony’s jaw drops, and Natasha stares at him, frozen.

    His room.
    He has always been careful not to refer to the tower as ‘home’ in front of Tony or any of the Avengers. It feels presumptuous. But he’ll need to move past that feeling.
    Because today, he wants to ask Tony if he can move in.

    Peter's nightmare? Mr. Stark dismissing him like he means nothing to the older man.
    Somehow, both of these things happen. But things always get worse before they get better.

    Alternatively: Peter gets drugged, intoxicated, and poisoned when trying to save Tony from a potential threat. Tony misreads the situation and fears Peter has betrayed his trust, heading a dark path he has gone down before in his youth. Trouble ensues.

    Tony heard the elevator arrive and winced at the prospect of unexpected company. His eyes were closed and there was a puddle of whiskey forming where he’d dropped the bottle, soaking through his shirt and into his skin. It didn’t matter though because there was no else it could be besides Pepper, and she had seen him in far worse states than this. It was supposed to be Pepper.

    It wasn’t Pepper.

    “Hey, sorry, I forgot my backpack by the – oh my God, Mr. Stark!”

    Peter doesn’t know Tony has a drinking problem. Until he does.

    Or, alternatively: Tony Stark gets drunk, says something he regrets, and tries to make amends – before it’s too late.
