He hadn’t known it was Shiemi’s first time going to the beach after their Kyoto trip. Maybe if he had, he would’ve tried harder to make it go smoothly, make it unforgettable, but not in the ‘we almost got eaten by a kraken’ way.
So that had ended up being a wash. But now he’s determined to make the second time the best ever. It’s his job now as her boyfriend.

“Ichigo?” He’s just staring at her, something vaguely familiar flickering in his eyes, and there’s already a pit forming in her stomach. “Something wrong?” she tries to coax out of him.
What he says after makes her wish she hadn’t. “I love you, Rukia” are the words that hit her like a sucker punch to the gut. She wonders if maybe she’s hallucinating, but the steady look on his face with a clenched jaw of determination tells her she isn’t.
