Summary
Something inside of you unveils itself, hot and achingly hungry in its intensity. These beings walk, unaware of your watchful eyes, and the glowing essence within you reaches for them. A longing to fuse or cleave, you can’t intuit which. You observe them with an inescapable emptiness, something itchy and raw at the edges. You do not know of these things, these animals that behave so differently from you, but you know that you belong with them—rather, they belong to you.
(The nogitsune wakes, first, as a fox—not yet obstructed by a future in which it will learn that it cannot also be a wolf.)

Summary
Derek’s hand comes to splay along Stiles’ chest. “Your heart has always given you away. So, tell me, do you know how you feel?”
“No,” Stiles tries again.
Derek shakes his head. “Tell me the truth.”
“Derek,” he pleads, “if you take this from me, I have nothing.”
“God damn it, Stiles,” Derek snaps. “You have me.”

Summary
“Okay,” Derek responds, compliant. But his throat dips on a hard swallow and his nostrils flare and there is a strange sense of power in this. A power that Stiles holds—the knowledge that Derek Hale is coiled tight in wait, rigid as he lies around for the opportunity to take from Stiles the hurt that must fill the room with such a sour smell. Derek’s face always seems to be twisted up. It’s a sickening thing to wield. Something that makes Stiles feel like there is still an inescapable darkness within him.

Summary
It’s not like he’s unfamiliar with this behavior. Roman’s always been twitchy in his own skin, a serpent scraping up against the teeth of the world so he can molt. Kendall just doesn’t know how many layers of him are left before he's shed right through them all. He shouldn’t have to keep track of these things.

Bookmarker's Notes
It was easier to pretend that he was Luke’s kid, not yours—you could walk away from your responsibility and claim that you had done all you could.
You could have done more. That’s why you’re here.
