Summary
Gimli had died. He was very sure of that. It had taken a good long while to be done with it, after all. Most dwarves don't live to see 300, and he was well past that. Then again, most dwarves don't grow old in the Undying Lands of the Elven Haven. But Gimli was named Elf-Friend by the Lady Galadriel, and she'd vouched for his passage. Not that his husband would've cared if she hadn't. Legolas had all but smuggled him in with unrepentant defiance.
Gimli had died. Then he'd woken up again. Not in the halls of Mahal as he expected, but rather in the halls of Ered Luin. Supposedly this was meant to be a gift of knowledge blessed upon the House of Durin. Personally Gimli thought it more likely a coincidence of timing that he happened to come back during all those silly ancient rituals. But you don't take a gifted diamond to a scale. It all seemed to work out well enough, anyway. This time around, Gimli will be going on the quest to reclaim Erebor. If all goes well, he'll even be able to save the line of Durin and reunite with his husband.
Needless to say... things do not go well.
This had been done already and done well. I'm not trying to write a masterpiece. Just want to have some fun with it.
