The man covered in blood is watching her.
Another gust of icy wind blows across her, burning at her skin and bare feet, halfway out the door. Something makes her stop, where she stands. His head tilts, eyes wary.
“Well?” She asks. Her breath still comes out in pants, unwilling to stay in this fucking building a second longer. “Are you coming? Or not?”

After a few moments, she moves forwards, and presses her forehead to the middle of his back. She can smell the strong, black coffee he’s making. The distant traces of soap, his long-faded aftershave.

Mark’s got a hand wrapped around the steering wheel. Rumpled suit, tie tugged loose from the firm knot. He’s got a five-o-clock shadow and an even more haggard look to him than usual. “You look like shit.” She says.
He ignores her words entirely. “Why the fuck are you in my car.”

He watches the back of her head, red hair bright against her dark, thick coat, the longer strands glowing under the flickering white lights. The weird song that’s playing- it’s almost familiar. Somewhere distantly, he thinks he’s heard it before.
