"Oh," he did his best to sound natural and unbothered. "And who might that representative be?"
While Topaz would never pass up an opportunity to tease and one-up Aventurine, surely this was off limits. There was no way she would have picked Ratio, right?
Topaz giggled a little bit. Oh, she was enjoying this. "Oh, no one,” she said in a sing-song voice. “Just your favourite little situationship who you've been ghosting."
It appeared this was not, in fact, off limits.

But this was Ratio, and the Doctor had proven time and time again that he was an unusual and, at times, unpredictable person. Ratio was someone who had once explicitly said he was interested in who Aventurine actually was, not who he presented himself to be. And that kind of honesty and vulnerability was frankly terrifying – something Aventurine had no idea how to reciprocate properly.

Ratio would get his precious files, and Aventurine could bask in the comfort the scholar’s presence brought him, even if just for a short while.

Following the events of the previous fic I wrote in this series, Ratio needs the paperwork documenting what happened on their last mission. Aventurine turns this into them hanging out and going for a dinner date, and feels terrible about it the entire time, not knowing that Ratio is also down bad for him. They are dumb and I love them.
