The longer Cassian looked, the surer he became that there was nothing to see. And why had she come outside without a blaster, without calling to them? Bee kept watch at nighttime, and he had spotted nothing. He swung back to Bix with a fresh question on his lips but finally, for the first time, he registered the blankness in her eyes. She was static in fright but there was distance in her intensity, like a moment frozen in time.
“Bix,” he murmured, “put down the vibroblade.”
