Alsan sobrevive a la batalla de los Siete.
Desearía no haberlo hecho, porque entonces no tendría que cargar con esa culpa que le pesa a cada paso, no le deja respirar y hace que le duela el corazón. No tendría que soportar el dolor de mirar de nuevo a los ojos de quienes hirió. Quiere enterrar su consciencia bajo rocas, escombros y el poder de siete dioses, destruir su cuerpo y sus recuerdos para olvidarlo todo.
Pero está vivo, y considera que su castigo es seguir viviendo con las consecuencias, con la culpa, porque es un castigo peor que la muerte y lo que merece: recordar lo que hizo. Así que, por primera vez en la vida, cuando la vergüenza lo abruma se obliga a vivir. Huye, porque cree que eso ya es algo tan innato como respirar, pero no busca la muerte, no está vez.
Esta vez se obliga a vivir.
