Summary
The first two nights, Harry sleeps like the dead— or, well, maybe that's not the best comparison, given the number of inferi attacks reported lately.
He sleeps like a log. Like a dead log. An un-re-animated dead log. From an everyday, inanimate, non-whomping tree.
After that, Harry wakes up screaming more nights than not, and he even cries on the bad ones, which makes James cry too. In this regard, James reckons that his first week of parenting a full-grown teenage adult bears an awful lot of resemblance to parenting a newborn baby. He feels both blessed and terrifyingly out of his depth.

(This would be a lot easier if their captives weren’t convinced everyone they talk to is dead. It would also be easier if they didn’t spend half their bloody time bickering.)

Summary
A Slytherin Harry AU sticking to the tone of canon, with no tiny politicians. Diverges from canon increasingly as the years progress (and Harry's Sorting is not the only pre-canon point of divergence).
Back at the dawn of time I wrote the first draft of year 1 (which was very much canon, but with green ties). When the pandemic hit, I decided to revisit the idea, and got most of the way through year 4 with a few bits written for later years. Then JKR went insane and made the HP fandom a weird place to be, so now I'm slowly tidying up what I had to archive here but can't promise whether I'll ever get to the end of the full 7 years. I hope to, though.

Harry slipped the hat over his head with trepidation. A small part of him was still irrationally worried there had been some sort of mistake, and that he would have to go to Stonewall High after all. He wasn't reassured when the first words the hat murmured to him were "Difficult. Very difficult."
"Please put me somewhere", Harry whispered. "I can't go back, I can't."
"Yes, you're more the moving forward type, aren't you," the hat replied, low and amused. "What to do with you... You've got plenty of courage, I see. A deep sense of justice. Decent enough mind, if you applied yourself. And such a thirst to prove yourself. Well, I know just the place to help you with that."
