Mary’s boyfriend is named Graham, and he’s at least a head taller than Marlene, with his flat chest and Adam’s apple and bulge in his Levi’s. Mary has a hand wrapped around his forearm when she breaks the news.
“Graham and I are dating,” she says, laying her head on Graham’s shoulder.
Marlene swallows the rock in her throat. “That’s really great, Mary.”

Sirius knows that it’s stupid. The entire time, he’s painstakingly aware of how stupid it is; as he traces eyeliner across his lids, dabs glitter onto his collarbones and shoulders, and dons the black mesh top that Remus had once told him he should wear more often, he knows . There is no reason— absolutely none at all, not even one he could lie about— that Sirius should be going to this club tonight, except for the sole fact that Remus will be there.

Sirius watched a bead of sweat trickle down Remus’ spine and fought the urge to trace it with his finger. The heat in their room was sweltering, worsened by the complete lack of breeze. The smoke from Sirius’ cigarette wafted lazily up and out the window, dissipating into the cloudless sky. A tiny pool of sweat gathered at the small of Remus’ back, glinting in the light of the afternoon sun, and Sirius found himself unable to do anything but stare.

sirius felt the words caught in his throat. he didn’t know how to explain. his mother was his mother. she gave birth to him, she was the first touch sirius ever knew, her blood ran in sirius’ veins. he would never be able to escape that. no matter how far he ran, he would always carry his father’s name. he couldn’t explain that violence was a part of him. so instead, he apologized. remus accepted it, thinking it was for sirius’ behavior, but that wasn’t entirely true. sirius was apologizing for being a black, for being the person that he was, and for being the one remus fell in love with.

"Whatever," Zuko narrows his eyes, his tone dismissive. The crying boy that was pleading with Aang is dead and gone. "Will you pretend to be my boyfriend at my cousin's wedding?"
The question hits Sokka like a ton of bricks. His first intuition is to laugh, hysterically. He has to be joking, right? The two of them, always at each other's throats, pretending to be a couple? His family thinking he has a boyfriend is that serious? "No," He manages to speak through his laughter. "Are you fucking kidding? Of course not."
Zuko, however, remains deadly serious. "I'll pay you one thousand dollars for every day you're there."
Sokka stops laughing. So he really isn't kidding.
