There are few things more important to George in life than his ability to take care of himself. To meet his own needs; be able to put down however many miles as he needs to protect himself. Without his independence, he feels trapped in a primal, desperate sort of way.
The only thing that can overcome his need to take care of himself is his need for Dream.
After a poorly thought out stunt, George has to come to terms with losing one, even if it means gaining the other.
