Bakugou approaches the kitchen island, placing the cap of his water bottle across from you before he heads to the tap to fill it. Your eyes seem intense - focused on anything that wasn’t him, and that happened to be your phone screen. You looked like you were trying to burn a hole in it with your gaze. Even for him, the tension was brutal. He decided to see if he could make light conversation.
“Why’re you up so fucking early?” He cursed, but his words did not hold their usual bite.
He even surprised himself - he didn’t know he could speak that softly, even if it wasn’t particularly gentle. His word choice may have also sounded a bit accusatory. It was taking all of his willpower not to break out into rage to counteract the awkward situation.“Couldn’t sleep.” You muttered.
“What the fuck? Why?”
“Just a bad dream.”

“But you would?” You smiled, leaning into his touch. His thumb was calloused, like all his fingers. They were a bit rough on your skin, but those were the hands you entrusted everything to. You couldn’t have sculpted them any better if you were a god playing with clay.
“Only if you ask nicely.” Shouta returned your smile, though his was much smaller, more subtle. If you didn’t know him, you would hardly have noticed a change in his expression at all. But you knew him and Hizashi better than you knew yourself, and they could read you just as well. The three of you may have been unconventional according to typical societal standards, but the opinions of strangers amounted to nothing when you were blessed with not one, but two connections that ran so deep you felt as though you could tie your veins to theirs like a tangle of blue yarn if you focused hard enough on the task. You knew how lucky you were; triangles were the strongest shape in nature, after all.

Raphael walks in, annoyance on his face until he sees the two of you. His brows knit in confusion, and he opens his mouth to ask what Mikey wants, but then his eyes finally land on the now bared arm you've been trying to pull from Mikey’s hold. His jaw snaps shut, and you feel your breath stall in your chest.
The waiting is the worst part. He is silent for one impossibly long breath, and then he is pushing Mikey out of the way to take your wrist in his massive hand. His eyes are still fixed on your bruised skin, silent rage building behind his gaze as he stares. You’ve never seen Raphael this still. Never seen him this angry before, and that was saying something. Several moments go by, and none of you move. It feels like you can’t breathe, like you’re suffocating under the scrutiny of his gaze on your marred skin.
“Say something. Please.” You beg quietly, voice tinged with fear and anxiety as you brace for the rejection you're certain is coming. Who would ever want damaged goods like you? Certainly not Raph, who values strength.
“He thinks he can beat on my girl?” Raphael snarls.
