Summary
"My lord," he said solemnly, "you are full of evil."
"Is that how you see me?"
Melkor rested his chin on his palm in feigned interest.
"Or perhaps it is how you prefer me? At least, my lieutenant, it seems to me that the taste of evil makes you rather ravenous."
Mairon returns from battle and knows how to pull Melkor's strings - as well as his own. Melkor is happy to play along and together they make it a problem for everyone.

Summary
And yet, whenever Melkor slipped in to Valinor, and Mairon was never certain as to why, to taunt him, he surmised, he would engage him, carefully consider all his words to find faults in his arguments but eventually he would only hear his voice toll glum in his temples, echoes of it rippling down to his abdomen, shifting something in him.
Or: A short vignette in which Mairon is puzzled by his feelings. Not angsty, nor fluffy, but a (hopefully) nuanced third thing.

Summary
He looks up to offer Melkor a faint smile. If Melkor did not know better, he would think it coy, even apologetic or maybe bewildered, but he does know and so he is not deceived, he sees the ravenous animal lurking behind the mild expression.
Melkor loves Mairon, given that the thing his heart is capable of can be called such. If not, just as well, for does he not own him, and is that not equally good if not better? Or: standard issue angbang pwp where they are in love but it's nowhere near healthy.

Summary
“Do you think this is how Frodo felt before he left?” he had asked Pippin one late spring afternoon, while watching the sun slant low upon the apple orchards and limn the trees in gold. “Torn in two?”
“We are older than Frodo was then,” Pippin had responded, “and we have grown deeper roots, and our roots have grown many roots of their own.”
Merry and Pippin bid their final farewell to the Shire. (Or, on leaving and on meetings that are really partings.)
