Man, what an eventful way to die.
After the good ending of DSAF 3, Dave, Dee, Steven, Peter, and Blackjack find themselves in their own little afterlife, which looks eerily like the Kennedy's house.
Everyone else is still holding onto the hope that Jack will follow them here one day, but Dave and Blackjack know the truth. They've decided to hide it from the others for now, but who knows what decisions the future will bring...

Jack groaned and threw his hands out in exasperation. “Did you hire this guy just to piss me off or something? Is this about last week's token incident? Because I swear it wa—"
“—First of all, not everything’s about you,” Steven butted in, shutting Jack up. “And second, you could use the help— I could use the help.”
And before Jack could even get a word in edgewise, Steven rattled off, “You’re always talking to yourself, the kids don’t like your attitude, and you don’t even know our token to dollar exchange rate.”
Jack didn’t see his point. “So?”
Steven did not dignify him with a response. “His name’s Dave. Dave Miller. And he’s coming in later today, so be nice.”

Summary
Jack Kennedy has excellent work ethic. For so many years, he's carried out his promise dutifully, working day and night to save every soul but his own. He's been tethered to everyone else's whims for so, so long. And he's so tired.
It only takes a few drinks for guilt to become action.
Or: Jack can't move on, but by Christ, is he trying.

The dealer eventually piped up, and told him, “If you don’t know how to play, go and get your partner.”
Jack’s hands froze around his cards.
He knew he’d been hanging around Dave for the… whole trip, really, but enough for people to think they were…?
“He’s not…” he started to say, letting a nervous laugh slip out. “We’re just friends. I- I don’t think of him that way.”
The dealer sighed and motioned around the entire table, where everyone was paired off into duos. “I meant poker partner, you dunce. We’re playing teams.”
“Oh.”

Summary
Jack was currently awake at 2:36 AM, in a Las Vegas hotel room, staring at the ceiling.
He did have to admit: sharing a bed with Dave had staved off the nightmares. That man was a miracle worker, or maybe just was good and holding someone with those long ass arms of his. Jack doesn’t know, hasn’t happened yet.
But he does know, that even despite his now-dreamless sleep, he’s awake.
