“It doesn’t matter. Want to know why?” Aaliyah points at her, her voice hissing as she steps into her space, hostility rippling in the lines of her brow.
She pushes at Cruz’s chest repeatedly, her words in sync with every movement. “I don’t—" shove, “want you—" shove, “anymore,” shove.
Cruz takes her hits. She is solid, absorbing it all without budging. Her resoluteness breaks Aaliyah open like a dam, and everything she’s been holding back comes pouring out in tears. Her palms continue to connect with Cruz’s body, desperately trying to push it all back in.
“I don’t want you,” she spits out all at once, her eyes blazing. Cruz isn’t sure, at this point, which one of them she is trying to convince.
Cruz grabs her wrists the next time they fly toward her chest. She steps into the puddle Aaliyah’s hair has dripped onto the tiles, easing her until her back hits the counter of the sink. She guides her arms down and settles her wrists against the granite, feeling them tremble beneath her fingers.
“No? Then why are you so upset?”
OR
