“Then let me help you.”
He snarls. Not loud. Not animal. But something close.
“You don’t know what you’re saying.”
“I do.”
“You don’t.”
Your voice trembles, but not from fear. “Is there someone else? Someone you want instead?”
“No.” It comes fast. Vicious. “Don’t ever say that.”
“Then what is it?”
He looks like he’s in agony. “Because I want you. And I shouldn’t. And if you touch me, I’ll stop pretending I don’t. I’ll ruin everything.”
