Summary
Rory had endured more pain in the past decade than most people experience in a lifetime.
Both physically and emotionally.
Pain that left it's mark both on his body and his soul.
He could clearly recall the agony of shattered ribs and the sharp bite of his nose breaking in countless brawls. Both from when he still used to work on the force, and the ones on his own accord.
And now, the searing pain of a bullet ripping through his side, leaving a scar that throbbed with every breath.
The emotional bruises cut even deeper.
The sting of losing his closest and only friend, the relentless jeers from his supposed peers who seemed to relish his every misstep.
And yet, as he stood in this moment, the weight of all those wounds combined felt like a dull ache compared to what he was feeling now.

Summary
They say your life flashes before your eyes when you die. Rory thinks that’s true, to a certain degree. It’s less a ‘flash’ and more of a flood, a rush as you rethink all the things you’ve done up to this point all at once. How much you’ve still got left to do, how much you’ve screwed up, and now it’s too late. You can’t fix it.
Rory’s had this experience twice now.
The first was the bomb. With Knight. He remembers that day far too clearly, and yet it’s also a painful blur.

Hollywood, 1947, about mid January…Look, I don't usually keep track of dates. Let's say it's the 15th, that sounds about right.
It's been a long while since there was a big case surrounding toons. No one really poked around with us, considering it's near impossible to purposely kill a toon. But recently...
Well, safe to say there's no confirmed deaths, but popular toons don't go and vanish in the masses for no reason. There's usually at least a note, something that says 'GONE FISHING!' taped to the door. But without telling anyone? Nothing left behind? That's what confuses me, and scares me, to be frank. There's some kind of pattern, but I can't figure it out, and with the main toon detective being one of the ones missing, it's hard to get anyone who wants to work on the case.
'Just kooky antics,' they say, and sure, everything can be a kooky antic if you let it be, but when my friends are vanishing, there needs to be someone who can help, right?
And that's when I found a man desperate for money.

An anthological look at the universe Happy Tree Friends presents, with a more serious lens. Each chapter is a self contained story, taking place at various points and focusing on a different character each time.
There is a town lost to time. Those unlucky enough to be inside it during its removal from reality became trapped, subject to repeated deaths and tortures on a daily basis. For years, they've lived in a state of fear and depression- Life is hell, and all are doomed.
And yet, inexplicably, they keep going.
