Summary
These scars we bear and the stories they tell are not ours to bear alone. They are pieces of us that make us who we are— pieces that will go down in history. It is up to us to decide what kind of legacy they leave behind.
We are all stories in the end, after all.

Summary
“Do you get them too?”
Katara’s eyes open slowly, peering down upon him through those long lashes that just barely brush her freshly dampened cheeks. It isn’t until then, with the light from the storm stuttering in through the curtains, that he even notices that she had been crying.
“Do I get what?” Her voice is edgy, clipped, and yet he can hear the shakiness that he knows she so desperately is trying to hide.
“The nightmares. I get them too.”

Summary
“What do you think will happen? I mean… after it’s over.” Katara’s voice is quiet, wary yet full of question. She doesn't understand, either, what it was about this boy that makes her words tumble out so vulnerably, but before she can stop them, they are stolen away by the wind.
For a moment, by the way he stands within such heavy silence beside her, Katara thinks that maybe he doesn’t even know himself. That is, until he speaks up and surprises them both. “I don’t know. I guess we just… try to forget.”

Summary
{Just a cute little rendition of the reunion in the Earth Kingdom post-war.}
And when he is finished, when she turns back around to face him, he sees it in her eyes that destiny really could be a funny thing. It could be altered and woven and molded into anything that they wanted it to be and maybe, just maybe, he could grab it; he could hold onto it forever if he really tried.

The summer is ending. The summer that he fell hopelessly, recklessly, and irrevocably in love with his best friend.
It wasn’t supposed to happen like this, but he supposed this was how all great romances began and ended: with two broken kids in the backseat of a beat up car in the middle of summer.

Summary
“I know you love him— you’ve always loved him. No matter what, he’s always there. He’s always been there. It was never just me and you.”
Defeated— that’s what he was. That was what was on the edge of his tongue. She could feel it from here, from this scant distance between them, that he had lost. Not in a sad, pathetic sort of way, but in the way that cracked a heart in two.
