“I can’t do this anymore, Eds,” Steve whispered, swirling the whiskey around in his cup. “It’s getting to be too much for me. I don’t know how much more I can handle.”
Approaching Steve as if he were a wounded animal, Eddie gently placed his hands on the brunette’s shoulders, rubbing soft circles into them.
In front of Steve sat a letter, its contents blurred out by the tears that had come from Steve’s eyes when he first opened it.
“What did this one say?” Eddie asks gently.
Steve sniffles, taking a sip of the whiskey before he begins to speak, “He knows where we live.”

“Well, look what the cat dragged in! Don’t you have a Cocomo or something to be sipping on, Harrington?” Eddie teases as Steve takes his cup, and if Eddie moves it in his hand so their fingers brush when he takes it, well, Eddie’s just fucking resourceful, okay? He’s like a rat, he’lll scrounge for scraps of serotonin wherever his grubby little hands can get them. This morning, it just so happens to come in the form of trying to get a rise out of King Steve himself. And yeah, okay, Eddie will bite. The Wheelers seem to have the incoming drinks under control, so Eddie presses his palms into the countertop to lean over it a little and lick his lips as he nears Steve. They taste like salty sweat and sugar and goddamn he cannot wait to get home and shower.
( That, he thinks, that is when he can let himself think about Steve Harrington’s ass. )
“It’s okay, you can say it. Your coffee’s not as good. We won’t judge you, babe, we already know.”

Screamed as his flesh was torn apart, heard Master of Puppets in the distance and held back tears. Felt Max’s cold, small hand in his as she laid in the hospital bed. There are things that always happen, no matter how hard he tries: El doesn’t arrive in time. Eddie dies. Max is put in a coma.
Steve fails. They lose.
“Steve, how many loops have you been through?”
His head is nodding, and his eyes are watery, and Eddie has approached him like a spooked animal.
“I lost count.”

Summary
Eddie Munson and healing properly from trauma are not two things casually roped together into a sentence. He doesn't sleep, he doesn't socialize beyond what he absolutely has to, and he definitely doesn't talk about what's going on. Which is fairly difficult when two people he considered work colleagues during his one time job of saving the world start to consider themselves his closest friends. And technically, seeing as he has no other friends at the moment, he's not completely against their constant efforts to get closer with him, but he is completely against the way Steve's hair falls over his eyes when he tilts his head to the side to look directly into Eddie's eyes.
It's obscene. And Eddie will not stand for it.
He's going to continue to barely live his life while working at the tattoo shop next door to where Robin and Steve work, and if he has to see them every once in a while then so be it. Steve Harrington is the straightest guy Eddie's ever seen, so he shouldn't be hard to resist. Right?
