Once, last year when Diluc had first returned to Mondstadt, he’d been out for a wander around the city walls when he’d spotted Kaeya standing with Bennett in front of some training dummies, showing him how to thrust properly with his sword. Razor and Fischl had been watching closely, growing more and more excited until Bennett had executed a particularly powerful-looking Pyro strike, upon which point they’d all cheered and fallen together in a group hug. The proud look on Kaeya’s face had been one Diluc had recognized well, as it had once been on his own face when Kaeya had finally made it into the Knights of Favonius.
It had been hard, then, to see the family he’d carelessly cast aside. There was a divide between himself and Kaeya Diluc had thought could never be crossed, but here was Kaeya, crossing it. Here was Kaeya, trusting Diluc with the kids he considered like younger siblings to him, even if Klee’s opinion of him was written all over her face.

A long time ago, it was decided that Kaeya's life does not belong to him but to Fate; there is nothing he can do to change its course. Which is the truth. However, even if he cannot change his own destiny and turn his curse into a blessing, there is nothing stopping him from weaving the fate in favor of the others.
