Summary
In which Shane's relationship with Rose unfolds the way it does on screen, but Ilya's father dies right before All-Star Weekend 2017. They have yet to reconnect, but Shane wants to find a way for them. He decides to come out to his team, starting with management, that spring. The Montreal Metros make it clear that they will not be the league's trailblazer for queer players and terminate his contract. The Admirals lose in game seven.
In June, Shane goes to Wimbledon with his parents. Instead of a Swedish princess, he meets the CEO of the Swedish Hockey League and makes the decision to leave North America. As a veteran playing for the Växjö Lakers, Shane becomes a mentor to guys trying to go pro in North America. Guys like his linemate, Derek Briggs.
Years later, Briggs makes the Ottawa Centaurs out of camp. The Centaurs' plane makes an emergency landing, Ilya still sends Shane those messages, but Shane doesn't answer.
(Or so Ilya thinks.)

To New York, which is a dream come fucking true. He's playing with Scott fucking Hunter, even if he announced 27-28 would be his last season Aris still gets to play with him! So fuck you, Hollander-Rozanov and your handsome fucking face and your goddamned superhero rescuing tendencies. Aris Floros is going to win the Stanley cup first.

Winning was supposed to make sense. Make things easier. Like how they were before. But she woke up a week after winning feeling empty. At first she had chalked it up to feeling off, maybe it was her period or the snow that wasn’t letting up in Ottawa. It would pass like it always did. Ilya presses a series of kisses to Shane’s neck, soft strands of hair tickling his face. “Make meal for hot husband, wait for him to come home. Rail him over kitchen counter. Or pick him up from practice, fuck him on hood of Lamborghini. Yellow one.”
